Title: Re-wire time!
Post by: RiverRat91 on April 20, 2012, 07:54:16 AM: Well since river season is nearly here I want to re wire my Tahiti, because my only problems with the boat has been electrical. There isn't a stereo or anything in the boat besides gauges, so it should be really simple.

Is it worth buying a kit, or should I do it myself? I'll admit I'm not the most electrical savvy guy, but I'm not a complete idiot haha. If anyone has a wiring diagram it would be much appreciated!

Post by: mobboss on April 20, 2012, 08:44:28 AM: do it your self its not that hard and if you spend a little extra time you can label it all so if there is ever a prob youll be able to find it right away.

Post by: ka0tyk on April 20, 2012, 09:41:37 AM: make a diagram first and foremost. label everything and give yourself some room to grow. you say you dont have a stereo now, but what if you want one in the future? leave an extra power wire in your harness, etc. also i suggest using a relay panel so that you're not running big amps up and down the boat. this will let you run smaller gauge wire and you can invest in higher marine quality stuff. plus the relays offer increased protection along with fuses. im running one of these:

Post by: RiverRat91 on June 07, 2012, 12:49:24 PM: Okay well I'm near done with re wiring the boat. I ripped out the old points distributor and all the crap that was it it, the old alternator, and replaced them with a HEI Distributor with a in cap coil, then I got a one wire alternator.

My question is how would I properly wire the distributor and alternator (obviously separate)

Post by: AQUAHOLIC on June 07, 2012, 02:04:59 PM: my advice is use all the correct color code wire. that will make trouble shooting easier. I had a freind that had a yellow boat so he rewired the whole boat with yellow wire (retard) when we had an issue every wire was a roll of the dice. it was the dumbest thing i have ever seen.
