Hey guys. I'm in process of getting my motor rebuilt. Any recommendations I should let my machinist know? Like how much clearance and all that good stuff? I'm not really go familiar with BB.

I'm not going to get into specifics at this time, but I'd recommend you talk to the machinist and let him know it is going into a boat with an open cooling system and see if he understands what is required for this type of build. If he says something like "there all the same" or "what difference does that make" that would be your hint that you are in the wrong place. If he starts telling you about the work he has done on somebodies race boat or some ski marathon boat you got your clue that he might be able to meet your requirements.

Your machinist works for you...make sure he understands that. Do your own research on the build, use the recommendations from the parts manufacturers as far as clearances, tolerances, etc. make him do it your way, not "the way he always does it"...and check his work.

I agree your machinist works for you, but having to tell him how to build an engine specific to your needs is like telling your lawyer how to defend you in court, your doctor how to do surgery, or your accountant how to prepare your taxes. You should give him your details on what you expect and what you want it to do in your application, and they tell you how to make that a reality, and how much it's going to cost to get there.
I agree with Crewchief, if you have to tell him what the clearances should be or "boat build spec" v.s. a car motor, you're probably in the wrong shop.

Lake Ming is at the foot hills of the river they do boat drags their occasionally

The kern river feeds into lake Isabella which isn't a bad lake at all IF the wind stays down.

I used to like going to Isabella back In day with my uncles. Wind was a big issue. But I don't even think there's water there at all. Maybe like 2-3 feet. Been like that for bout almost 2 years.we should meet up one day. Lake ming or Buena vista. I usually see lot jet boaters there too
