So I'm not running water lines on my Bassett's and think I need to plug the water intake holes on each of the tubes. Does anyone know off the top of their head what size bolts I would need to buy to do this?
Thanks.

You need 1/8" pipe plugs, but you should also braze the weeper holes closed... No one ever does, but that cold air can be a killer...

Also make sure to check them often. They come loose, if one falls out, you will know... I always carry a few extras...

Guess I've been getting screwed...bought them twice for 2 different sets. Almost 3.50 a piece. Where do you get them for a buck 80?

Just curious, why would anyone want to run them dry unless in a full time racer?
-
That's what I was thinkin???

Less water in the bilge.
Less clean up on the transom.
Less plumbing.
Less risk of reversion.
One less thing to adjust.
So go right ahead and inject away!

Don't they get too hot after running for periods of time?

Isn't that normal for you?

Of course.
One thing to think about is that they are in an open engine compartment, air is constantly blowing across them and unlike cast manifolds, won't retain as much heat.
Do not take this the wrong way, they will get hot!
Generally not hot enough to cause damage to the gunnels.

I normally buy fittings by the box and get them at a wholesale price because I work for a contractor, but retail on an 1/8" plug is like $2.

I've run headers in cars for years and never gave a thought about overheating or damaging things under the hood. So if they are exposed to open air wouldn't they run even cooler? I thought the only reason for injection of water was to keep the chrome from blueing. Am I wrong? :screwy:

yes. I believe the only reasons are to stop the bluing and also noise reduction
