How do all you guys connect your boat to the garden hose when you r working on them at home? I'm replacing my leaky gate valve and wonder if there is something I should look to buy before I do so!

Run the hose up through the pump or connect it to the water line running into your block

I have a brass garden hose connection on the water line to the motor. I just spray WD40 in the pump impeller/wear ring area before I start it and back off the packing lands.
Works good as far as I am concerned.

Yeah Im just bored talking smack.
Remember you gotta follow GTs procedure to setup the new Gate if you install one.
Id try the packing first like mentioned hold the body with a backup wrench tighten packing nut 1/4turn

So, Along with the aforementioned GATE valve, I have a ball valve, down stream from the gate valve, on a tee, that goes to a garden hose. The garden hose is about 12' long, give or take, with a nice, polished, garden/driveway sprayer on the end. I unhook that hose and use the city water to the boat through that tee.
Hmmm, valved @ city water, gated to supply water DIRECTLY to the wear ring and impeller, and ball valved to supply enough VOLUME to cool the engine.
I've never thought about the WD 40 deal, sound good to me
That's all I got...

i took the simple approach, and it seems to work fine for me so far
hose off the pump to a gate valve, gate valve has a male water hose fitting, the feed line to the motor has a female garden hose fitting.
unscrew the above mentioned water hose fitting, screw in the garden hose. Turn water on lightly
start boat
Works fine for me. And will build heat on the garden hose
