Edelbrock Victor intake on a 460 jet

Is anyone running an Edelbrock Victor intake on your 460 jet?  I'm wondering if they come on the power band soon enough for the jet.

They are rated from 3000 to 8500 RPM or so.

I'm running an 850 Holley, Edelbrock heads 10:5 compression from the forged pistons,  MSD marine dist and wires, Comp cams 288 Extreme marine cam. Edelbrock air gap intake.

Do you think the Victor would be better for top end?  That's the way I'm thinking at this point.

What do you guys think?

I am running a Victor Jr w/ a 850 Holley in a healthy stock Ford 460 (about 400hp) w/ JC bowl 'A' cut.  I don't notice any lag in the power band, figuring you aren't really moving until your up above 3k anyway.  It pulls strong throughout the whole power band, I'm very happy with my setup..

I am running the victor on my ford w/dominator flage and it works great.  :thumbup:

what jetting are you running?   Power valve?  Vac at idle.

I'm running the comp cams 288 not to hot not to sweet....

I have 76 in the front 78 in the back and 2.5 on the power valves  I'm wondering what effect
the Victor will have from the rpm air gap.

Don't know vac at idle , cam is BIG and the carb is a 1050 w/o PV's and it is jetted 94 squared.

Tried it out today,  she needs more fuel!  Changed the primary to 78 and the secondaries to 80  Power valves to 4.5
At idle warmed up it's right about 8 on the vac gauge.
I'll try it again Monday.

It won't do any better than your Air Gap. What RPM are you reving now ?

If you are running under 5,500 90% of the time stick with the Air Gap.   I'd bet a bunch that dmb who posted he is  running the Victor Jr's  would do better with an Air gap like you're running. A near stock 460 does not need a Victor Jr, not even close.

You asked about " top end" what are you rev'ing now?

RPMs are between 5-5200 depending on load etc.
If it doesn't respond to the jets and power valve changes I'll just put the Air gap
back on.
Anyone else have any experiance with the Victor?    I'm wondering what jet range I should
be starting out with.  There was a hugh differance in the two intakes as far as the carb setup
goes.

At that rpm range you're waisting your time with the Victor Jr Vs the Air Gap. The Air Gap is by far the better choice.  Is the Air Gap port matched to the heads ?

Yes on the air gap.

No, on the Victor I planned on doing that this winter.  I didn't want the down time in the summer.  If it doesn't do any good to have the victor do you think it would hurt? 

On the 460 forum they said it was a benefit even without the matching so I thought I'd give it a try.  It's about 1.5 hours to switch the intake so I'm not to worried about switching back.

I'll know more tomorrow from this engine stand point as to how it reacts to the new jets and power valves.

Got the Victor dialed in very close, 78 front 80 in the rear.  Power valves were 4.5 HI Flow.

There was NO RPM increase however.   I went back to the RPM Air Gap last night.  Victor will wait for the port match over the winter.  I wanted a little more time to tune on the Air Gap.

So in my case the carb tune was very different.  The final RPM change was so minimal you couldn't see it.  I didn't GPS it due to clouds.....

Took it out today with the RPM intake.  I have 78 main jets 82 secondary with the 4.5 hi flow power valves and it went 200 rpms more than the victor.... go figure

I wonder if the port match screwed it up or is it just not high enough rpms to hit it's sweet spot.
It went 5200 rpms today.

I'm done for the summer   ;D
