Title: Serious Engine Problems

So I took the intake and the heads off, and it is a total disaster inside... :banghead:  Since it has been sitting for about a year (I was deployed) the tarp that was covering it ripped.  Water leaked down into the motor, I hadnt realized how bad until I pulled the heads off.  It looks like surface rust, I don't think the pistons or walls are pitted, I haven't taken it all the way apart yet.  I need some input from the experts.  Will I be able to just clean it up and put it back together?  I will be putting pics up later so you get a better idea how extensive the damage was.  But as long as there is no pitting I can just clean everything and be good right?

Ive heard of rust killing blocks that were left in the hot tank over the weekend.
Dont get your hopes up.
I really do hope it works out for you.
Take it to a reputable machine shop for a visual and hopefully they will be honest enough to tell you whether or not it is salvagable.

I realize yours ripped but I like to tent mine at the aft end, so the moisture has somewhere to go.
I ALWAYS see people cinching there tarps down tight all the way around and if moisture cant get in, it cant get out.
Its gotta be covered but let it breath.
Even if no water gets in, the condesation alone will get into your exhaust ports, and it will oxidise the fock outta your alumineeum.

Yeah, I had it tented, but it ripped just right for the water to seep down.  Unfortunately in NC nothing ever really dries out, I had the tarp extended out over the pump and the regular cover I put a couple of two by fours under it to allow it to vent.  I think I'm going to just take it apart and clean it up, see where I am at.  I think when I post pics it will help alot.  Gotta get in there and see where I'm at.

The reality is that a machine shop is going to have to clean it up until the pits (if any) are gone.

Rust is always a bad thing...yet on the other hand a few spots that remain if any is only a cosmetic issue.
If you have any pitting thats defnitely a no no.
Take scotch brite with solvent and scrub everything down, cylinders etc. and see what you come up with,then post pics for me to see...Good luck ;D

After doing the inspection wd40 the heck outa everything/oil too!
