I picked up this running BBC for my 18' Rogers to swap for the current Pontiac that came with the boat when I got it. It has this single carb tunnel ram set up but I've heard that trying to run a single carb on a tunnel ram doesn't work very well. I love the look of a tunnel ram but I want it to run the best it can. So my question is... Should I replace it with say a Victor Jr intake or what would you engine guru's recommend? I'll be running a single Holley 830 cfm race carb with manual sec.

I honestly would put a single plenum intake on the engine and be done with it. A tunnel ram intake with a single carb will have horrible air/fuel distribution between the cylinders. I'm also a fan of the tunnel ram intake, but only if all other components match well and there is two carb’s on top, then dyno tuned for best results.

If I were building a standard deck single carb program, this is what I would run. This manifold is capable of supporting 1000 horsepower if the rest of the engine is also.

If he still has it, that's a good price! You will need an adapter for your square bore carb. I would go for one of the anti-reversion setups.

I am no motor guy, but if I was, this is probably what I would want to know to give advice:
Do you know anything about the engine currently ( hp,comp ratio, type of heads, cam grind)? Looks like it was in a V-drive? ???
What are you looking to do with the engine/boat (all out race, river hot rod, built cruiser/ski boat)?
You could make most anything work, somethings would just work better. You would probably run better with the victor vs a tunnel ram.
But a TR does look so much cooler and would probably run fine. It'd use a lot more gas and is twice the tuning.
Some guys would even argue a dual-plane would be best.
A lot depends on how the rest of the engine is built.
I have read on these forums, were guys have said they have had no problems running the single carb TR.
But there have been too many industry people that have said it's a "bad idea". Why take the chance.

I have a single carb tunnel ram worth a 850 cc on my boat. I have been told to get rid of it. My boat runs good with it. But I'm thinking on running a single plan with a scoop.
