Any idea how you can blow the bottom of a lifter off? Picked up an engine I didn’t have any idea about in the beginning of summer and ran it all summer until the end, on the last trip it sounded hurt and had steam and a little water coming out of my driver valve cover breather. Ran a compression test for the first time and found #5 cylinder was low which is where the broken lifter came from. Besides that I also found all my other cylinders were around 220psi despite stock being 120-145psi. Ran 91 pump gas all summer, could pre detonation from the high compression and lower octane be a possibility or maybe a bad break in when they assembled the engine?

Wow, never seen that before.
Did you find the other pieces?
I imagine that lobe is toast.
Re-cam it and haul ass?
Probably what I would do.
Just my $0.02

Exhaust lifter may have gone flat, introducing some valve lash. Causes the valve opening events to happen late, increasing cylinder pressure and load on the valvetrain. 220 cranking compression is higher than normal, not a stock setup.
