Hey guys. Trying to seperate snails from logs for new seals and to have polished. Nuts have been removed or cut off along with the stud and still no go. What have some of you done to seperate? Tried jamming flat screw drivers in between with a little heat, but it didnt even budge. I am afraid to take a chunk out of it though. I am thinking of using a hack saw blade between the mating surface to cut offvthe studs but then i will have to extract the studs. That will be a whole nother ball of fun that i dont look forward to. What has worked?

This is extremely common.
I have had pretty good success with ammonia. I work on industrial refrigeration, so the stuff I get is diluted anhydrous ammonia.
Parsons, Mr.Clean, store brands will all work, look for the highest concentration of ammonia.
Grab some grease and carefully paint a light layer on the areas you don't want to get discolored. Keeping clear of the bolt area. Continue to soak the area where the studs are stuck.
Honestly, I use a plastic tub used for mixing mortar (about$25 at the home center) and a little aquarium pump (like $8 on Amazon) and put the hose right over the flange.
It will take a day or two, but the ammonia will eat up the aluminum oxide, but really won't hurt the good aluminum, just makes it flat and raw looking, it should polish back.
Good ventilation, slow and steady.

Take a piece of 2x4 on the ground... hold the part that bolts to the engine in your hand and gently hit the snail on the wood. Add a little acetone/trans fluid mixture to the studs and union.... a little heat goes a long way as well.
NEVER!! Jam anything in between the mating surfaces... the cooling jacket is super thin and needs a flat surface with no nicks to seal properly.

I just had to do this a few days ago. I soaked the studs with PB then I used heat and a hard rubber hammer on it. Worked on one side but the other side I used a cut off wheel where the studs were and then punched out the rest

Whatever u do, don't beat on them to hard. I was using a rubber dead blow and cracked the whole flange off the snail. I know what ur going through, wish I woulda had all this good advice.
