So I think I have this all worked out.......finally........
« on: September 08, 2011, 04:31:46 PM »
After 3 years gathering hard to find parts......many thanks to many here on the boards, you know who you are......and having a shortblock assembled.....TWICE......then changing up on things  :banghead: .........I think we have a solid plan here to go with, and enough parts to make it all happen and work together like I want. Some custom shit is still gonna need made, but we have that lined up, I THINK.

Mocked it up today on a dummy block. Well, actually a very good useable block, but it was close to the stand and this was a whole lot more fun than actually cleaning the damn garage (RJ's job tonight  ;D  )

LOL! I know. That still remains in the air. I'd love to find and SST tunnel bottom for it, but am probably going to drop it in Pickle (SST V-Bottom).

Cool set up Ray. What is the name of that injection set up. It would be cool to convert that to EFI using that set up.

It's a Crower 8 Port blower injector, TJ. They are being made again now by the owner of the patents, Rons Fuel Injection here in Tucson, but out of aluminum this time, and they do convert them to EFI as well. I kinda dig the Ferrari-like throttle system.

I'd love to find the original scoop, but what I have will work for now.  ;)

Ray, a friend of mine has a scoop that currently has an adapter plate on it for dual carbs but was originally for an injection unit.  We don't know what brand it was for but if you can get some measurements I'll see if it'll work.  I don't have a good pic of the inside of the scoop but I'll try to look at it on monday.

This is what the original scoop looks like.

It uses no plate on it. Actually has the 8 holes in it and is held on buy allen bolts from iside the magnesium scoop. I've seen a couple, but at $800, they can keep them. There's also 2 sizes of them. Mine is the larger 2 1/2" butterflies. I can probably make that work the same way this one works with an aluminum plate then bolt the scoop to that plate. The opening in the bottom would need to be at least 7" wide x 13" long. bigger is fine, better actually.  ;)

I shoulda been clearer Keith. The base I have was made from whatever dipshit cut up the original scoop to weld this plate deal to the bottom portion and use whatever scoop he had bolted to it. Wasn't the guy I bought it from, I'm quite sure, and I've never seen anyone weld magnesium before, but here it is.

Anyway, I'm hoping I can modify this base to work with THAT scoop. That one will need the holes welded up in the top, ground, resanded and polished, but would give the look of the much larger "Hercules" version of the Crower setups. Might be interested anyway for another idea I have in my lil brain........

Man no clue what that went to, But I'm sure someone, somewhere is cringing in disgust it was cut up like that. Much as I am!  :banghead:

My Crower measures damn near 5" from inside one throttle bore to the other side of the other throttle bore at the back........

and  from front to back should actually fit with some machining and have some extra room.

Unless your friend has some better ideas, I don't see it fitting very well at all short of machining most of the bottom of it off and welding what I have welded to a plate (Cutting the plate off) to it. Shame, as it really looks a LOT like a Crower Hercules scoop, just a lot smaller and without the ribs on the top.

Lemme tear the scoop plate off and get you some more pics with a tape on 'em to maybe see if he can work on this.

Ray

Here they is........Actually, more I look at it, might actually be feasable........

2 focked up original scoops from 2 different things to make at least 1 old school looking piece! Thing is, the piece I have is Magnesium, and I see now is only JBWelded to the plate so a couple smacks with a hammer and it's off.
