i was looking thru the garage and i found a set of AUTOLITE 145 spark plugs. i checked with autozone and these will fit the 454 in my boat. my question to you guys is this a good choice for my boat or should i get a different set. also if these plugs are fine what should i gap them to.

I put Autolite 26 in my 454 the last time. I'm not sure where the 145 falls in on heat range.
Gap will depend on what ignition you are running.

I would probably set the gap at .035 to start if you don't have a reference (previous setting).

so i can throw these 145s in my motor. i am not sure on the heat range either. when i looke up the part number at autozone it said it was a heavy duty plug for a chevy truck with a 454

Probably not far off. You might make a run and pull 1 or 2 out to look.

This is dumb but does your motor use peanut plugs or gasket plugs, older heads used the gasketed plug, it just didn't come up.
And with your ignition system .035" should do
The 145 autolite is for mid '70's to Early '80's GM V8 (very common plug) with HEI (among others I'm sure)

WHOA trigger........Are these deep reach plugs? Early MKIV motors used 3/4 reach plugs...Put those in a 1/2 or 3/8ths reach head and you'll break pistons until it quits running......Get a little more info on number cross over..........MP

Thats what I'm saying, what heads?;) I just didn't like the words "throw these plugs in" and party!

wow. i am glad i asked. so i should check the number on my heads before putting in spark plugs. that is good to know. were are the id numbers on the chevy heads?
thanks again guys. i am determined to have a good boat summer this year. last year i had to pull the motor almost everyweekend.. :banghead:

Casting #s will be under the valve covers.
Are there any plugs in the engine now?

pull out one of the plugs thats in there now and compare it to the new ones if there the same length put them in. thecraz

no plugs in the motor now. and taking my valve covers off means i have to take my headers off. so that kind of sucks. i might just swing by the engine builders and see what he says.

Makes me happy I have a mopar. Autolite 75's for all the big blocks with factory iron heads, and Autolite 65's for everything else (including 4's, 6's, etc) including most aftermarket BB heads.
