Title: sputtering at idle

brought my boat out last weekend.  I ran great for about an hour.  Then it started sputtering pretty bad when at idle.  above about 2,000 rpms it ran fine.  The fuel filter is new and  my card is only about 1 year old.  Any other suggestions?

Maybe you have some water in the tank(s)?  Get a couple of bottles of HEAT and put in each tank, that would take out any moisture.

will definately try that...the boat sat over the winter for about 6 months.  I did drain the tanks and put fresh fuel in it though.

You only need one bottle of heat in each tank not 2.  I just re-read my post and that's how I would have taken it.  Water is heavier and if there's a angle to how your boat sits, the water will move to the low point.  It's just a thought.

can you use that "HEAT" and run it thru the motor? i has some what of the same problem and the boat sat for a yr and i put gas in it and fired it up and ran it and it did the same thing. I have a water separator in the back of the boat hooked near the fuel pump.

Why couldn't you use heat in a boat?  They sell a lot of it in the COLD country so you don't have freezing problems.  I've still got about 6 bottles of it from when I lived in MO.  I would run a bottle through every other tank.

i wasnt sure if it was a before you fill up the tank type of stuff. im going to pick some up on my way home.

I don't know that it matters as the riding around will mix it.  Hook up and tow the boat around the block and that should do it, then run it.

What kind of carb?  You probably have some dirt in the jets and/or the idle circuit and transition slots.  I know I have to clean that stuff out when my boat sits over the winter.

Its an Edlebrock carb.

Check for dirt in the jets as mentioned above, if nothing else works.  If you need to rebuild, I've got a complete kit here that I was going to use on my original carb, but like everything else on this Miller, the carb had been screwed with to the point of no return.  I ought a new carb.   :mad:
