Title: Squished Headers...
Post by: Fuel4YourLuvn on July 28, 2010, 05:30:17 PM
What the heck did I do?  OTT water injected Rewarders # 8 looks like someone squeezed together and of course is cracked underneath, # 6 similar but not as bad, and after further review, # 1 seems to have a crack underneath.  Any help as to cause would be greatly appreciated before I go looking for new headers.  Thanks in advance F4YL

I will post pics as soon as the kids get home. We have had this boat for 2 years and haven't changed anything. It has always idled hot (this year with more water it takes longer to get out of the 5mph area) 200ish but then drops down to 160 and runs good all day long. 454 / TR / MSD.Could this be a heat issue? I know pictures are worth a 1000 words. Thanks F4YL

What happens if you squeeze it...will it crush?  Almost looks like they've been rusting from the inside and finally got thin enough to where they just sorta melted under the exhaust heat.  Time for new ones.

I have seen this before on a set of Bassetts. The engine idled lean due to a vacuum leak and literally melted the outlets of the primaries, they do weird shit when the cold water hits them....Basically quenched a red/white hot tube.

Pretty bizarre if you ask me.

Right now the headers are firm to touch and do not bend.  However a little history, we normally boat at Pine Flat ( Deeper Water ) now onr weekend at the slough ( Shallow / Silt ) we get this.  I have not had a chance to pull injector lines to check fot plugged lines.  What is a concern, is if the boat is running super lean.  How to check and adjust.  Thanks to all that have replied. your knowledge is greatly appreciated. if the boat is lean this this could happen ive seen one of my friends racecars melt through from being to lean but it also killed the motor we always run the motor full bore and shut it off without leting it idle and pull plugs look for coco brown thats ideal some guys like them a little whiter than that but u dont want white that could be fatele thats how i did mine theres probly a better or easyer way but i wouldnt know
