Was at the river on Sat heading up river near Lazy Harry's amd ran out of fuel on one side. The elec. fuel pump fed the carb and hit the starter-- and it sounded like a coffee grinder. I suspected a broken nosecone oe a cracked starter mounting pad, but all the teeth are gone on the pinion gear. 4 starters in 2.5 seasons, last one in october 2011. (checkerzone rebuild)

ON a side note :beer: THANKS :beer: to the jet boat guy that towed us to Lazy Harry's, wouldn't take money or beer .

If you didn't already order,, maybe try a Proline from RB in Parker.
Are you putting a new flexplate or ring gear on the flywheel? If not,, you may end up hurting the new starter fairly quickly.
Make sure you use actual starter bolts to hold the starter in place,, if you use a generic bolt it can allow the starter to shift. Whatever starter you buy should have instructions about shimming and engagement,, important to get that right if you want it to last.

Ring gear checked out ok, good visual through top mount starter hole. :thumbup: Always have used gm starter bolts. Starter is going on when it cools off a bit :beer:

There are shims involved in SBC/BBC starter installs Daniel, I'm sure you know this already.

Ahh yes, just another reason to not run a BBC. In my neck of the woods guys always rebuild the original starter instead of replacing. Smart guys keep starters and flex plates together always. Like a rock bah hah ha ha ha >:D

I know the truth hurts, but it is just one of the little design flaws you learn to live with when you put on the bowtie. GM earned my hatred and if they never sell another car or car part it is ok with me.
Here is a fun fact -- we spent more on (meaning the taxpayer GAVE GM union workers and mngmnt) more money in aid than we gave to all foreign countries combined. What we got in return was a company that still pays their employees twice what VW pays to make cars in Tennessee. Where the hell is all this money going? When are we going to get paid back?
