i dont know if i got the name right but im talking about the 2 rails in the hull of the boat that the motor sits on...
now i keep hearing that the stringers should go almost the lengh of the boat or somehting... is that tru??
if that is the case i have a question... uppon lookin more into my boat, my stringers go to my back seat and stop.. then i gues my seats are connected to a level area in the boat whcih sits higher then the hull..
is that ok or should i change the stringers or wat??? i see alot of boats with seats, place diverter levers, and foot peddles mounted to these.. soo wats up with that..

what you have is called "quarter stringer." its not as strong, but for moderate power its just fine. also plays a part in the bottom flexing as well. as long as you're not trying to own the lake with 2000hp and take chop easily and not try to power over it, you'll be fine.
im currently going to "plate" my quarter stringers to help add strength. basically sandiwching them between 2 aluminum plates which will spread the load of the engine across the entire stringer.

FWIW, it is not the quarter stringer itself that is weak, it is the harsh transition where they end that is the weak link IMO, plating them will make the motor mounts more rigid though (it can't hurt...)...
Most (not all) quarter stringered boats are built a little heavier than a full stringer deal, so they are still plenty durable, it's not until you get into the 600+ HP and 75 MPH range where I would be concerned at all... :sly:

NOT TO HIGH JACK, BUT...... I WAS THINKING OF DOING THE SAME TO MY 1/4 STRINGER. RUNNING STRINGERS FROM THE BACK TO THE FRONT WHERE THE BOARD CLOSES OFF THE INSIDE OF THE BOW? JUST TO HAVE A SOLID RIDE. NOT SURE IF ITS WORTH IT THOUGH? PLUS MY THOUGHTS ARE IT WILL GIVE ME A BETTER FOUNDATION FER MY SEATS?
