455 olds
« on: November 14, 2007, 09:20:57 AM »
I am trying to find out what the stock HP was for my 455 olds.  I know that olds offered them in the range of 310 to 390.  Mine is a 1971 with G heads and it is a Hardin Marine equiped engine.  Any ideas?

I was thinking that it would be 390 b/c it is a marine engine.  I believe that it has about 300 hrs on it.  I am having it rebuilt, so I am hoping to build about 400 and it be reliable.

Make sure if its not already done, you have restricters installed and open the oil passages for a better drain back to the pan ;D

Have you checked out Mondello's?  they got some really cool stuff for the Olds.

I bought the restrictor kit that Mondello sells and I was going to talk to my machinist about the oil returns.  From what I've read, that should allow me to turn 5000 rpms whit not problem  ;D, but I do not want to look like this  :'(, if I am wrong!

They have them for the main's and lifter's but you can always just run restricted pushrods.

These restricters were made for racing so you should be fine
I only had them in the main's

The kit I bought came with a 10 qt pan, pump, pick up, main restrictors and restricted cam bearings.  It was like $550.00, but it seemed like a good deal when you start adding the cost of all the parts seperatly.
