Post by: 2savage4you on March 07, 2008, 01:06:19 PM
Im getting ready to install the stud for my oil pump, and just wanted to double check . When installing studs you only put them in hand tight........Right......OR?   and would the torque be different between the two....... ???

You are correct..Brad is a stud.
I spin them in till they stop, then back out 11/2 turns. If they are tightened, when the nut is torqued the nut + the stud torque is on the threads. Tightening studs is BAD!!!! Why?  Say a head stud. It will crack into the cyl.
DO NOT RUN A TAP INTO THE BLOCK TO CLEAN THREADS!!!!! They remove material then the studs wobble like Elvis then strip!
Takea bolt and file or cut a groove down the lenght of the thread. This will collect the dirt in the threads. Or they make thred cleaners. Wire brittle brush in a drill works good also.
NO TAPS PERIOD!!!!
