I was on facebook earlier today and was on "jet boats rock" and one guy was posting something about putting his 14-1 mtor together and he was getting ready for the water...im on scjb all the time but have not run acrost this topic..so i guess i was just wondering what the pros and cons were...
I have been distant from the engine/hotrod/go fast game for awhile and did know about the sciences, advances and technology of e85.
The only real question i have now is, why not(other than availability) run e85 in a motor that is not intended for it? ie a mid 90s pickup thats completly stock..just scanning over the info, it sounds like e85 acts almost like running 110 octane...other than the long term detriment to the parts that cant handle the internal explosion for very long but man, it sounds like it sure would be fun for a few miles..lol

POS stock truck would likely not even start on the E85. Octane is NOT heat, it is the controllablility of the burn. The higher the number the less detonation (knock), the gasoline we use today has additives called anti knock compounds and the energy is close to 20% less than the same amount of E85.
To add, almost all the vehicles not intended for use with E85 will have o-ring, hose and gasket problems and the injectors will likely not be large enough to run properly.
Don't forget, it is going to be a bitch to start.
Methanol engines have crazy compression ratios (compared to gas) and the carburetor needs to be set up to run alcohol.
It is also not available everywhere.
I can go on and on, but I wont...
E85 is a pretty good fuel, but a great fuel, not really, the biggest plus is that the engine runs stupid cool because the fuel has very little heat in it, this can be good and bad.
