So I've searched this topic and not sure if I'm finding the answer I want. I've got saddle tanks with vented Rex marine caps that have done nothing but create headaches for me. Water in the tanks constantly being that my boat sits low and when I turn I get alot of water that runs over the side. So the first thing that I've done is to drill into the rubber filler neck and silicone a barbed 3/8" fitting into it. My thought is to run a hose from tank to tank around the back and at some point cut in a tee and put an external vent in. I have a perko vent. I'm not sure where to put the vent or if it will even work. Any advice would be great.

Well, here goes.
Silicone does NOTHING against gasoline. So I don't like that. Second, the vent should be forward of the fill (being as the bow is higher than the rear).
Is there any way you can get a piece of pipe between the fill and the neck of the tank?

I would rather see you drill and tap the front of the tank and install a threaded barb fitting then go to a traditional vent.

. The double barbed piece went in super tight. I used ultra black just to help keep it in. Not sure what you mean as far as a pipe between the fill and neck. I'd sure hate to have to pull the tanks to drill and tap them. They are glassed in.

The fill is at the front of the tank for what it's worth.

If you could get even a 1-1/2" piece of pipe between the filler neck bottom and the tank neck top, you could have a bung welded into the pipe and have a very solid piece.
Threading something into hose is somewhat sketchy in my mind.

. I see. So then after doing that, where would be an ideal place for a vent and could I get away with a single vent?

. Ok, so I made these today. Good idea, thank you. Now I still am curious where I can put the vent and if I can run a single vent with a tee from both tanks?

Why?
I personally would run each one forward a bit and as high as humanly possible. I really don't see any value in tying them together.
BTW, that is exactly what I was talking about, great job!
I think it will work out fine. Be sure to put a vertical loop in the vent hose between the filler and the vent fitting.

. The reason I asked about using one is because I have only one. Was trying to avoid buying any. And the thought of drilling a hole kinda makes me nervous. Is it a dumb idea to have a vent at the back somewhere? I have an open motor?

The problem with the back is that the forces at play can cause it to pull fuel once the line is full... Normally I only see them forward of the fills. I think I have a couple of those sitting in a parts box. Heading out now to "tinker" for a while, I will see what I got.
