Title: Temp gage
Post by: Limited163 on July 05, 2013, 10:19:03 PM
I just boat a 82 Eliminator, it has a 454 bbc, and the temp gage isn't working. I checked the wires for any possible loose wires, everything looks fine. When I run the motor, gage doesn't move, but when I shut it down the gage moves and reads a temp. However I don't know if it is reading the right temp. Any suggestions?

Remove wire from temp. sensor turn key on, ground wire and needle should go all the way hot. Than means gauge probably is working. Check water flow through motor at pump, turn handle down at idle til temp gauge reads around 160 at idle with boat in water. While cruising water temp goes to nothing

My posts aren't sticking, or somehow getting deleted...

Let me try this again.

This could be totally normal. Try touching the outlet of the stat housing and see if it us actually that cold. I an being that it is.

If it feels real cool then you should probably reduce the water flow to the motor just a little. You basically want to see about 160 degrees at idle, she will cool off while at WOT our even a fast cruise. If she cools down below about 140 you may need to install some restrictors in the outlets.

I'm going to call it normal.

It was the sending unit. Replaced that and it's working great!
