So if someone could give me a quick lesson on scoops. Forward facing vs. Backward facing. Exposed vs. Unexposed.
Is it a fuel air mixture issue. Is it a simple adjustment for the style you are running or want to run? Are there any advantages on one vs the other?
Please forgive me if I included pics of your boat without permission...only using as reference.

In my opinion, the easiest answer is it is just a style preference and to keep shit from getting sucked into the carb.

It's been proven that Holleys don't like the air blowing across the top of them....at least that's all I could remember.
Now legally, it's supposed to be backwards incase of a carb fart....

I run mine backwards for the safety aspect. Also if you run them forward its really annoying hearing the carb sucking all the air.

Thanks guys that helps a lot! I like the scoop look and will be going that route....this helps me know which way it should be facing!

Those really like being either in front of, or behind the trailer tires....you know, to keep the trailer from rolling away.

Unless you have forced induction, there is no benefit to having the scoop forward.
You'd have to be going right around the century mark to create any kind "air ramming" effect on a naturally aspirated motor.
The air flowing across the top of a carb due to a scoop facing forward has the potential to cause turbulence inside the scoop and disrupt fuel atomization.
99% of us will never notice it but the guys looking for every little bit put in the research.
Tall velocity stacks are the best at creating proper air flow into the carb.
Personally, I think the tall arching fiberglass scoops do a pretty good job at creating a good plenum for carbs.....even though they are hideous.

Rear facing is advised if there is a chance of being hosed down by a "friend" with a diverter.

Ha!! Lived there a few years back and still wear the flops with socks!
But I'm getting that forward isn't a serious issue. On the water anyway. They have those inserts for the arrestor that direct air flow downward into the carb....will that resolve the air turbulence issue?
