When or how do you know when to change it. I pulled the pump and it spins freely. I am not replacing the impeller, just gaskets so far. Now i have to find where to get a rebuild kit with just gaskets. Do they even have one like that or is it all individual?

You can buy just the gaskets . Call up:
Tom @ Jetboatperformance.com (http://Jetboatperformance.com)
Rexmar.com (http://Rexmar.com)
eddiemarine.com (http://eddiemarine.com)
I usually get most of my shit at Rex marine cuz it's on the way home and everything is always in stock. Except for the fukin catalog , anyways .
I was told if there is no play in the bearing at all , it's OK . I've rebuilt one pump on the same bearing and the bearing is the only thing that servived the pump failure . ??? :-\ Kit with the bearing isnt that much over the kit with just the gaskets soooooo........

Does the bearing have to be pressed in or can it be done at home?

Mine just slides in and out . :P
It will have to be well greased to aid it goin in . I have found that in disassembly and assembly , you can not have enough lubrication . I used WD-40 for tear down. A thin layer of grease around the bearing to go back in , anti-seize on the wear ring .Thats all the advise I've ever recieved . I'm sure theres alot of others way to do it .
