Title: Timing Set

Someone on here has to have to thoughts or words of wisdom about this.

They should be the same, same cam center to crank center. 429heads should come in here and enlighten us for sure ;)

By how much? Is it close or is it about a 1/4 inch off?

429's and 460's use the exact same engine block. In fact, given any year that they were both manufactured both engines use 100% identical parts except for the crankshaft (stroke) and the pistons (pin location).

Cam-to-crank centerline is 6.078"

Post by: 429heads on April 10, 2008, 11:30:53 PM: Some late 460 used retard 8 deg chain set smog, and some 429 where 4 bolt blocks.
some of the chains could have come from down under Ausi and were short, I think
at one time some one made shot a chain set for line bored blocks, some 429 blocks
could be bored bigger better casting. 429 heads were machined for screw in studs
most heads were open chamber heads.

Of all the factory 429/460 heads that were manufactured, such as C8VE-A, C8VE-E, C9VE-A, D0VE-A, D0VE-C, D0OE-R, D1VE-A, D2VE-AA, D20E-AB, D3VE-A2A, E6TE-AB, E7TE, E8TE, F3TE, etc.....only one casting number was produced as an open chamber cylinder head and that's the D2VE-AA. And it was manufactured for a single model year only (1972). All the rest of the heads are closed chamber heads (except for the hemi).
