Title: To tunnel ram, or not to tunnel ram

I plan on eventually getting new heads and cam for my smallblock 355. I keep reading on car sites that tunnelrams love rpms. Then I keep reading they work well in jets because we rarely see low rpms. I'll be a first to admit I love how they look. Reminds me of all the jets I'd see as a kid on the river. I was thinking about getting the tr1yx edelbrock with a couple 450 holleys. Am I barkin up the wrong tree? I don't want to constantly be fiddling with carbs if I don't have to. Can they be setup reliably? If you remember from big river last fathers day, I mainly drive with my foot it it. Class is in session and I'm listening

Unless you have some knowledge of how to tune a carb or two.
I wouldnt do it.
Just me though.

Once they are set up correctly you should not need to mess with them

Looking in Engine Masters more small blocks seem to be running on one carb now.  Go with a single dominator over two 450s Dress it up and for a manifold I'd use a Victor Jr. with a 2" spacer. Match port it and you won't be dissapointed.

Hell why not?, the biggest issue with running tunnels is the tuning problems, dual  four barrel TBI units would be da bomb diggity IMHO, albeit expensive....

I've been eyeballing this SWEET Barry Grant TBI setup out of curiosity but it's not big enough CFM for me.  Probably just right for a nice small block though.  Wonder what folks like Glen, Tom and others think of this...   ???

that looks badass. i absolutely hate wiring, i'm a firm believer in the less wires a boat has, the better.

well i came across a guy selling a weiand TR with dual 650 holleys, linkage and scoop. it is a VERY good deal. Should i jump on it?

Depends on the deal. Check Summit for what the stuff goes for new, figure the carbs probably need a total rebuild, cost of the linkages, go from there. Weiands a very good tunnel! Probably work tits on your ride! Don't get the guys started on Vac vs Mech secondaries, etc.........whole 'nother argument there....... ::)

Well I have been gettin about a 50/50 response on this issue between here and PB. I'm going to go look at the TR this morning. Basically if it's in good shape and everything is there I think I might try it out. If I end up hating it then I'll sell the thing. Won't know unless I try. I'll be out 2 trick kits and a set of felpros, which I already have.

Sounds like a good deal to me. No specifics on the carbs, but I run weirdo's according to the masses anyway, should be fine!

Check your PM's, call me when you're looking at it and I'll check the list #'s on the carbs.

T/R's are certainly cool looking, and unique. and CAN outperform most single carb applications, but mostly it's just the cool factor. I say this as the thoughts are running in my lil brain on twin T/R's on my latest deal. But My lil Moo loves her Tunnel!

Anyone got a suggestion on a distributor, or have one layin around? The big ole hei doesn't fit the TR. I have a msd box and blaster 6 that my buddy gave me, that I never hooked up
