Title: Trickle charger permanent/semi permanent installation
Post by: bajaleo on December 31, 2014, 11:15:04 AM
Wondering if anyone has permanently/semi permanently installed trickle charger(s) on their boat. What I was noodling was after a day/weekend on the water, after putting the boat away in your driveway or storage unit, you just plugged in to ac and called it good til next time.

I  started thinking about this after buying a Battery Tender Jr, which has alligator clips for quick connection, and also has a cable with eye connectors for a more permanent installation.

Would require some mounting of charging unit and a bit of wiring.

Happy New Year All!

I attached the eye let's to the battery   and use the plug cap  and hang it up out of the way with zip ties

There are cheaper chargers, but I have used these with awesome success.

I have one in the cruiser, one on the truck and one in the motorhome.

Best bang for the buck, just plug it in to a cord when you get home. The one on the truck goes to the same plug as the block heater (2005 Ford PSD).

The one in the Motorhome is the smart charger version and does two CAT 8D's and two group 27's. They sit at 12.7VDC at all times.... All the vehicles that have these have multiple batteries.

I plug the float charger into a cigarette lighter plug. Real easy and convenient.

I like this idea. Battery Tender website says I can charge both of my batteries with one trickle charger, I think I'll connect them with jumper cables while on the charge.
