New motor
« on: August 13, 2014, 12:32:11 PM »
What's up socal, was wondering if you  guys can help me out here. my motor recently got thrashed by a failed front main and now block is no good. I found another block.  Not sure on exactly what compression pistons but I know they are forged flat top speed pro pistons and arm rod bolts. Block was originally built by Nelson racing. So I'm assuming they are on the low compression side. Anyway,  I'm gonna get it gone thru,  hone, inspected, new rings,  new bearings, new mains. The machine shop is charging me $1200 bucks to do the labor and gonna give me a new tapet cam with new cam bearings and new push rods.  My question is, what cam should I get. I can't afford a roller cam, so that's out the question.  I have a fresh built 12jg with an A pellar. And stock(I belive) oval port heads and a elderbrock carb and intake. Thanks

In the Comp Cams line I would recommend one of these two grinds or smaller...NOTHING LARGER with stock heads.

Xtreme Marine XM278H, cam #11-240-4

Marine 280AH, cam #11-314-4

You can look up the specs on the Comp website if you're interested.
The part numbers I listed are for the cam only, Comp has several different kits with lifters and other components available.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Okay. I show these part numbers to machine shop. They are the ones that are gonna buy the cam. Not sure what brand or so yet.

I think the 049's have a 122cc open chamber and need a little dome
