I added a remote oil filter kit to make my life easier. I now have about a quart and a half of oil in my bilge. This wonderful surprise came on my second day of running. First day had no issues, 2nd day oil all over bilge. Im running a Indmar 454, had 40psi at idle and between 60-80psi of oil pressure when running around 5,000 rpm. Checked filter kit and lines and they are dry and no leaks. Noticed that my valve cover had some oil around it, but nothing out of the ordinary. Any, thoughts on where this issue might be coming from. :banghead:

oil drain plug? dipstick hole?

Oil drain hole in pan has a drain tube, checked and doesent seem to be leaking. Dip stick tube was siliconed in, but seemed to be loose, going to resilicone

Go to auto zone or oriellys and get a uv leak detector kit. Cheap and easy!

I had an oil leak a few years back after a fresh build. But the engine never leaked a drop during 30 minutes of break-in on my break-in stand (aka shipping pallet).
Like yours, the engine was loosing 1 or 2 quarts in the bilge every outing. I incorrectly surmised that it was the main seal, so I pulled the engine and replaced the main seal - never mind that it looked perfect!!!
While bolting the pan back on, I decided to pull the dipstick tube to re-seal it. That's when I found a crack in the dipstick tube, at the block where it's swaged (expanded). :banghead: It went about 1/3 of the way around the tube. Must have cracked it when I reinstalled the engine after break-in. It sure made a mess when the engine was running, and the source wasn't readily apparent, beneath the exhaust logs and all. And it didn't feel loose from top-side.
Look over your dipstick tube really close when you reseal it. Matt

clean everything like crazy... go out and have someone else drive while you have your head shoved in the bilge looking and feeling around for the leak. i found a small leak coming from my pressure sender but it was shooting upwards so i figured it was a valve cover or something. after taking em off a few times and still not finding it i sat back there while someone gave it a few revs. it only took one shot of oil to my eyeball to realize where it was coming from.
2 quarts should be pretty easy to spot.

Should be easily apparent with THAT much oil, I would think!
But getting someone (No way in hell I'd even do it) to stick their mug in harms way at speed in one of these things....good luck....
I couldn't even get Rivertard to do it when he heard the vacuum leak in Pickle to go and ID where exactly....... :screwy:
Start at the bottom of the engine with clean, white paper towels and work your way around and up. Should be pretty easy to find as already mentioned.

Hey, thanks guys, looks like the dip stick might just be the issue. Going to reseal it and see what happens.....
