Title: Vacuum oil change problem
Post by: sportinwood on April 05, 2014, 02:35:51 PM
I found a thread on here about oil changes using a 5 gallon bucket and a shop vac. I gave it a shot and I'm having an issue with the bucket wanting to collapse from the suction of the vac. Anyone have any bright ideas. I may just ditch this and go back to how I was doing it before.

I've only got about 2 qt out so far.
Thanks.

I use one of these. I have a hose with a quick connect fitting on the front of pan works pretty good. On I/O boat I just suck it out my dip stick tube.

Ya. I'll have to look into some other options. I ended up letting more air through the lid and it helped out. I saw that pump on the shelf when I bought my oil so I may give that a try. Thanks for the pictures and response.

When I had the boat with remote oil filters I would just pull the ignition fuse out and crank it with a hose in a bucket, could remove the oil in about 6 seconds of cranking the engine.

Jabsco makes a bucket mounted pump for doing just this task, I have one and it works great, the oil should be warm though, cuts the time in half...

The pump...

The oil heater, mine was purchased at Northern, but is 300 watts, they don't have it anymore... Heats all the oil in the pan in just a few hours.
