From what I've seen, it just matters where you boat. For most of us it's not really necessary because it never gets that cold during the "season". Just use the throttle to keep it running for the first minutes in the morning and good to go.
A lot of people wire up the choke or remove it completely.
I live 10 minutes from Elsinore and have done some cold mornings in the winter, so am trying to keep the choke functional.
