Where do I get a valve that limits the pressure going into my engine? I have a blown headgasket and I am not wanting to do this again.

Mine looked like a regular hose bib...

I was told home depot has them, pressure relief valve. Search this site for a few threads on the subject

Home Depot has them somewhere around $50. My home needed one several months ago. However Home Depot's are pre-set for 50 lbs and I've ? read ? that Jet Boat Perf.'s are pre-set at ? 15 or 20 ?. Unless you can put a pressure gauge on the water it's going to be difficult (at best) to adjust correctly.

I have a gate valve on mine but obviously someone adjusted it all the way open at one time or another. How can I check how much pressure is getting through if I dont buy one with settings?

I was told 2 turns open . I've fine tuned mine since.

Thats what I was told . I idled around in circles to see how hot it would get and do minor tuning from there . I only get to 180 , tops. If you decide to do this . Make sure you put it as close to the pump as possible . If a line ever decide to give , you'd be pumping water into your boat , and fast .
My Hallett came with a 4"copper nipple from the pump to the valve them rubber hose .
My saguaro came with a bitchin ball valve which to me was redundant . It now has a 1 1/2 ft of hard line to an accesable point and them a valve .
Lots of people are going to the more popular method of a bypass relief or a regulator of some kind .
Another pointless story for ya : When I first bought my saguaro I had never even been on a website much less knew anything about what a jet boat was . I saw a big block chevy and big ass chrome headers and I was sold . Talking with a few people who have been in jet boats since the 70's . This is what they told to do and it all came about because I wanted to put a garden hose attachment on it . They also said call rex marine . I called rex and they said "You can get all this stuff at the Home Depot ." So anyways , here i am .

There is already a hose valve on my boat. It was simply opened all teh way when I got it and I left it that way. The boat has not gotten hot since I have had it so I have to assume that too much pressure is causing my head gasket to leak. I guess my best bet is to simply close the valve a bit.

I closed mine in 1/4 turn incriments till you notice the temp getting higher than you like .

The Hondo has a gate valve plumbed up under the driver seat so it can be adjusted while running. I've been told to get rid of the extra hose and put it back by the pump. I haven't changed it yet but I might.

Sandaddict, Thanks for the heads up ... I was going to order this from Grainer for $50 or so. Add a thru transom dump and I should be set. $20 vs. $110 for a pre-made "kit".

What is optimum pressure if I could find a limiter valve?
-
I would say not to exceed what ever the radiator cap would say if it were in a truck.
