Title: Vibration when starting motor

I've got a 460 Ford in my Galaxie boat. I just got done with a rebuild and threw the motor in the boat this weekend. Went to start it up and it had a pretty good vibration happening. I didn't let it run for more than a couple seconds so I don't do any damage to things. I put a new/used Berkeley pump housing in and everything is basically sitting in the same spot as it did before I pulled the motor (didn't vibrate this bad before). Few details...on my motor the bell housing has a piece that sits on the bearing cap with a clamp to keep things snug. (Pictures to come)
I've seen that there needs to be a degree at which the motor and pump are supposed to sit. What is the best way to get this angle of .5-3° while keeping everything straight? I am going to be taking the pump out and run the motor to cancel out the engine or the pump.

Any help would be appreciated.

Several things come to mind immediately.

Harmonic balancer and flywheel. Same as the ones in it before?

Drive line,  same one?

If the driveline has bottomed out on the splines from using the wrong driveshsaft, it will have a fierce vibration.

I agree with your decision to separate the motor and pump.

Is there a chance there is a rock or rats nest in the pump? You would be shocked.

Balancer and flywheel are the same from before as well as the u-joint.
I did check for rocks or anything in the pump and it was clear. I'm just a little lost on how to get the correct degree from pump to motor

If it's a balanced flywheel, make sure you have the dowl pin in the crank and the flywheel is indexed properly...
