THIS IS A QUESTION FOR A BUDDY...HE HAS PULLED HIS VALVE COVERS AND HAS MILKY OIL AT TOP AND I DONT REALLY NO IF THATS NORMAL..HE HAS WATER INJECTED HEADERS AND I THINK THEY MIGHT BE DRAINING BACK INTO MOTOR EVERY TIME HE SHUT DOWN..ANY SUGGESTIONS :-\ :-\ I DONT NO IF THIS IS NORMAL???

last time i took my v/c's off i had a little milk on the inside of the v/c's. i read this thread and i guess its normal to have milkshake inside valve covers as long as the oil on the dipstick is water free......heres the link.

Need pics of what he found, really, there's a HUGE difference between residual condensation and an actual "milkshake". Been a victim of both.
The above reference is pretty good, but it may also depend on how you run the boat. Understand water in the oil system of ANY engine is worse than dirt in most cases. I remember years ago, my ex-g/f had a new Quad4 Pontiac Grand Am, Quick little focker, but the oil was "milkshaked" quite often. We had the oil changed like every month because of my thoughts on it. Finally, I went to the dealer with her, and they said "Just the nature of it, it'll be fine". I got them to change the engine. Still did it. Traded it in on a Turbo Grand Prix......... ;D
I'm sorry, theres a little bit of water that is BOUND to get in these engines due to what we do, but cannot be more water than a street engine in a rainstorm or driven through snow.......... So, to my mind, any water evidence in an engine needs to be looked into. Blown head gasket? Reversion through the headers? (Which can likely only happen with high lift and duration cams with a lot of overlap), on a BBF, bad timing cover gaskets?........I can go on and on. I've always been one to figure out the "why's" of everything. Sometimes the "why's" are ok and normal, sometimes not........
Leakdown test should test the head gaskets, other than that, never had the opportunity to try this, but thought of it before, drain the oil, hook up an air compressor to the oil pressure sending unit location and then the dipstick tube and start spraying the engine down with a dishsoap solution...........

I have always had a little on mine. Figure the engine is warm, and as it cools off at the sand bar it will pull air into it. Since you are sitting on a bed of evaporating water you are bound to pull in some water vapor with the air. Keep an eye on the dipstick, there should never be any in the pan. Pics would be helpful, "a little" is a relative term.

Pull the dipstick, if it's milky down there, he's got a problem. If not, he just drives the boat like a pussy. Tell him to put his foot in it and get the oil hot once in a while.

when i smelled his oil, it smelled like gas and he has been complaining about how much gas his boat is using.He has a 502 with an 850 carb.What would cause gas in the oil to hapen?

YEAH ALL THE MILK (VERY LITTLE IT IS)WAS RIGHT UNDER THE BREATHER.THANXS FOR THE INFO.VERY MUCH APPRECIATED..STILL WOULD KINDA LIKE TO FIGURE OUT WHY MY OIL HAS A GAS SMELL.

That can probably be traced to either the float level too high, or a stuck or dirty needle and seat. Any of those could allow excess fuel to go into the engine. The engine won't be able to efficiently burn the excess fuel, so more than normal can end up in the oil.

The condensation "mayonaise" in the upper reaches of the engine without a oil volume /level increase is likley distilled atmosphere moisture drawn thru the crankcase due to cold engine, water and ambient temps and marginal crankcase breathing , "fueling in the oil is clearly carb related , possible misadjustment, floatlevels , leaking or incorrect power valve etc as said above Tom

carb issues such as that will lead to fuel wash , which in turn will damage your engine severely.. Fuel wash takes away all lubrication in the engine...jus my 2 cents :thumbup:

X3!!! But drove the engine like a pussy to allow water to condensate( I think Pat was spot on with that) , and carb overflowing like a waterfall.........This engine needs help........or at least looked into.........before something REALLY bad happens.........just MY .02

Yeah that's it,drove it like a pussy!just bought the boat and had it for a week and trying to work the bugs out of it!thanks for the info..
