Thoughts of the Bottle ? Any suggestions....
« on: June 27, 2013, 12:10:24 PM »
Don't know a whole lot about my motor other than it runs good and all day long !  I know compression is good and runs with good oil pressure, but I wanna go faster ! Plans are to pull motor in the winter and rebuild with forged shit. Motor is a 460, and I've heard anywhere from 100- 150 shot is pretty safe. Motor has stock rods don't know about pistons, mild cam, etc.

Needs some opinions !

Thanks

ive used NOS on a few other motors ive run (not in my boat)..there are a bunch of computers and accessories you could buy to make it safer to run on your application..dosnt necessarly have to be just olds school plate and a button.

I've ran it in cars that I've raced but not in my boat cause I dont race it. I have ran 250 shot on stock bottom end 5.0 stang and never had an issue other than burning a head gasket once.

Do you have any idea how much nitrous you would need to run in a boat? You would need A LOT.

Nitrous works in a car to get it moving, really never intended to make shit go fast for a long time. (by long time, I'm talking minutes).

If your motor has hypereutectic pistons, i wouldn't push past a 150 shot(if you want it to last) But if its forged, rings gaped, and the bottom end is built right, Spray away. You also really be on your tune. timing, fuel pressure, plugs and the jet sizes for the shot. I think the best set up is to have a retard box and a separate fuel system. Thats what i run. JMO

Check out this forum. Everything youll ever need to know about nitrous and then some http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26

Run a nitrous plate, back timing off, 1 step colder plugs. Start small on the shot, say 50-75 till you know your setup is right. Swapping out jets is piece of cake. I wouldn't be in it for longer than 15 seconds at a time... I would be interested to see what would happen if you turned the nitrous off at WOT and top speed...probably not a whole lot.

I'm planning a nitrous system for the race car with a separate fuel cell for race gas while in the spray, just to give you an idea...
