What's the best aluminum head for a 460 5500 rpm range?

So I'm leaving the Edelbrock heads alone. I have another engine on the stand (short block)
that will be finished off this winter. What heads?

I have an 850 Holley
Edelbrock Victor and RPM intakes
Comp cams XT, marine 288
msd marine dist.
long bolt manifolds right now
this one has flat top pistons

What do you think. I would have asked this question on the other post but it was
getting loooog.

tfs streets hands down
stock valve lay out and will just about out flow any other head of its design

you cant do every thing equal $:-\$ its all about matching parts and the combo. the streets will take a different cam than the edels. the flow rates are different. assuming you are trying to optimize the combo and not throw parts at it.

Well, here's what I have to work with on this short block.

Freed up is the Edelbrock Victor available is the RPM air gap

Pistons are flat tops.

Cam is the Comp 278 Xtreme marine installed at this time.

comp roller rockers and push rods with the stud girdle

carb is the 850 holley

dist is the msd marine plug and play with a 6AL box and accel coil

oil pan is the 10 quart armondo

It's a 1976 block, has not been decked.

Would this fit into the relm of the Trick Flows?
What other parts would you put on if something needs changed.

Remember 5500 rpms on top

looks good to me, only thing i would change is the cam and that would be a custom grind to match the port flow of the tfs heads. i think you will be happy

Or (you have to remember I am a penny pinching SOB) you could play with rocker ratio's to "adjust" the lift.

On a BBC (I know

) go long on the intake and short on the exhaust...Sounds backward, but works.

You will need some serious dyno time to find out what works.... $:-\$

you can do the same on a ford
dyno time and cheap should not be in the same sentance

dyno time or 400.00 custom cam, wich is cheaper

For me the dyno time....

Which is why I brought it up....

There is a trade school several hours from me (they asked me to not advertise their identitiy) that has been doing this for years for me, they sometimes need projects for students that cant afford their own projects...It only costs me gaskets and the swap parts....

Plus I help out less fortunate future motorheads...

They did my 355 for the Carrera. The student got a 98% on the project and passed the class

Encourage them to get A.S.E. Certified as well

As far as playing musical rocker arms...I gotta say :
1. That can help..I agree

2. Get the correct cam grind in the first place...imo.

3. Check And Correct v/t Geometry.....What good is a cam..w/out geometry

Your best bet is a hyd roller for your rpm range. Comp Cams tech line or a guy who quite a few on Performance Boats have used named Chris Straub. Paul Kane can find you a cam or two.

On the heads; the TFS street heats as stated are a very good choice, I'm not sure what vavle reliefs you'd need for the Kaase P-51 heads but they are killer. Maybe more than what you need.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd take an off the shelf cam (to save money) that was as close to what I wanted and then buy the dyno time.

Hell do both.
Chet Herbert will grind you a custom roller for around 200 bucks, or half the cost of my last Crane off the shelf solid roller cam.
