Disassembling my 049 heads and saw these parts which I've never seen before. I'm used to working on SBC. I've never seen a spring like this and ive never seen that piece that goes below the spring. Its like a bearing. Explain these to me. Do I need to upgrade or will they do. 454 .30 over 10.5:1 compression. Mild cam. Thank you.

Extra parts...... Something to recycle.

If I get new springs do I reuse the sleeve around the old spring? What about the bottom spacer?

No and likely no. You should have your machinist check your valve train over, to ensure with the new cam shaft, rocker ratio and whatever else changes for coil bind and for valve guide clearance. Also be sure to check rocker arm to rotator clearances...
There are times that the springs will need to be shimmed to obtain the proper closed seat pressures.
I assume your building something?

These are all stock valve train components. The round thing that looks like a bearing is a valve rotator. You don't need them, but you will need to get spacers that are the same thickness, otherwise you won't have any spring pressure. Stock springs haven't got much pressure anyways, so if you change to a bigger cam, you should definitely get different springs to match the cam.
