i did a couple WOT runs in my little tahiti and i noticed that it likes to hop at the slightest wave. a couple times the rev's jumped and i wasnt a big fan of it and obviously i cant react that fast.
what are you guys using for a rev limiter? i guess i can just toss in a 6AL on top of my HEI? do i need anything extra or have to modify my distributor at all? also would it be worthwhile to switch to a seperate coil over the HEI?
-
You can buy a seperate rev limiter from msd and wire it in...they even have ones you can adjust...
-
Maybe just wait to make WOT passes until the water is perfect?
-
I have a 6AL w/ a 6k chip in it. I have both an MSD coil and distributor however, I'm not running HEI at the moment. E-mail the MSD tech dept. and they'll tell you what you need in order to run HEI and a 6AL. On a side note: MSD no longer makes the 6AL, it's now called Digital6. Supposedly it's a better unit.

i think they make the 6al still, they just made it low profile and kinda lame looking

Yup that's it. My '70 el camino has an MSD HEI dizzy on it and I finally decided to install a 6AL box just as the digital unit came out. I still need to research exactly what the differences are between the old version and the new. I can tell you though, that looks aren't the only things they changed. I may even end up looking for someone who has a good used 6AL or an NOS unit.

oh no doubt msd products dont get "better" with time. im no stranger to having msd's die. my last few mustangs i eventually mounted them under the drivers seat on top of the carpet to help with vibrations and heat killing em.

you may want to adjust your underwater hareware a bit so she won't unload so easily. Might slow you down a bit when you're running in glass but it will help keep rods in the motor. Also keep you eyes in front and train yourself to understand wave patterns so you can react to conditions. This advice is all old school since we never had such neet contraptions as rev limiters in the 70's-80's. It's still good practice and makes you a better "Skipper".

here you go give this a go...dui bases all of their stuff off of hei...you have an hei right?

145.00 is a small price to pay if you want to keep from over revving your motor...you will probably have to buy a rpm module kit for an additional 40 bucks though...
-
Rev what!?! Nah, MSD ProMag w/ 6k chip
-
after talking with a guy if i were to go digital 6 id need to upgrade the module in my existing HEI, plus the box. i might as well just get a new msd distributor for that. ill be on the lookout. meanwhile no more WOT passes.

Idk how many solutions I can give u...

I converted to a MSD Pro Billet dizzy and 7Al box. We wired it up in an hour or so. With a 5500 chip in it.
Bought the setup used for $50. there are always good deals out there from time to time.
