Is there a Mallory sticker on the side of it?
I've got an old olds sitting on an engine stand with a Mallory 8000,looks similar. Stand alone, no box necessary if you don't want a box.
I'll check when the temperature cools down, maybe tomorrow morning I'll get back.

It looks like you're missing the rest of the wiring harness. Is that all the wiring you have, just the plug in?

That plug goes to a coil ... And keyed power .... U don't have to run a ignition box...

Any type of coil woodwork if it matches up with the specs of the distributor and or the box you going to use If you want to run a box at all. The boxes are nice with rev limiters , multi Sparks below 3000 RPM which is a feature I really like.
That Uni- light by Mallory is a decent distributor for your Oldsmobile. Have used it for years, no complaints. Mallory offers an advance curve kit that is fun to play with. It includes Springs and plastic feeler gauges. To set the distributor to your liking.
The wiring harness is not necessary but sure simplifies and professionalizes your installation.
