My battery positive goes to this "thing" on the R side then exits the L side in the pic to the starter. Why not battery straight to starter then to the boat DC system ? Or seperate line from battery to boat DC system ?

That's your starter solenoid. Ford used remote solenoids for what seems like forever, I know quite a few folks that have them on Chevies too, they cure hot start issues.

thanks, Ii only know chevies, this FBB kills me ! Something else to keep a spare of on the boat ?

eh, not really, if it dies you can always jump across it to get the boat started. But then again, I'm a cheap ass! I think you can actually do away with it if you want to, I deleted the one on my old Tahiti w/429 in it.

I dun have one on my 460 either..........but wait........wasn;t that me whose boat had starting issues at big river? :sly:
