Title: What Oil and What Fuel for Stock 454?
Post by: morebass10 on July 02, 2007, 02:00:25 PM
Hello everyone,
I just picked up an 87 Rogers a few weeks back, and have taken it out for a few hours over the past 3 weeks. The oil is getting a little beat, so I'm going to change it before I hit the river for the first time with it. Everyone tells me something different. The only mod is a weiand hi - ram tunnel intake.

And, what grade of fuel should I run?

Any suggestions would be great.

Hello and Welcome to the sight. We need to know what motor your running and any info on your setup yo can provide to recommend what oil to use. There are alot of good choices out there as well as higher and lower prices as well.

Ok. I have a Hardin Marine 454. but the block and lower end have been replaced. The motor is stock.  The weiand tunnel ram intake and a Holley Carb. MSD Ignition/Wires. log style exhaust manifold. Is that sufficient info?

My motor is nothing fancy and it runs on 50wt Valvoline racing and 91 But I'm thinking about changing to 20-50wt. That oil has been good to me . Just dont put bargain brand oil in it . I've never experimented with the lower grade petrolium but I might have to since my hallett hold 60 or so gallons  :'( Oh yeah , welcome to the site .  ;D  8)
