Title: What oil should I run a 460?
Post by: chaosmotox on March 06, 2013, 05:56:38 PM
Just had the stock heads rebuilt what oil should I run. Don't know what the guy ran in it before. Before and after pics in the motor are posted.

I'm still running Chevron Delo 400 15W40 diesel oil in my engine because of the zink.

No matter what you choose you want to make sure you are getting an oil that still contains zink unless you are running a roller cam.

Diesel oils (Delo, Delvac...) and racing oils (Valvoline VR, Kendall, Torco, Royal Purple, Joe Gibbs...) are going to be your best bet.  I mainly recommend using something that you can purchase local to you easily.  It's a pain in the A$$ if you have to mail order another case of oil just to top off before you use your boat again.  :banghead:

Chevron Delo 400 is the Shit

I may actually be here as we speak in Richmond Ca where it is made but thats another story  (about 90 percent of the bottle of oil you buy is made here in Richmond then whatever additive say Castrol wants to add is added and put in thier bottle.  Mobile makes excellent BASE lube oil also and if it wasnt made here they made it

That being said go with any of the listed above from other posts.  I run the Valvoline Racing Just make sure whatever u get has the Zink.  Thanx to our Gov some oils dont have it anymore

Or spend alot of dough and buy a roller cam and lifter set up
