I'm sure royal purple is better than some  standard penzoil, castrol, etc... Just depends on the pocket and how often your changing your oil. I don't think a cam would require anything specific. If your changing your oil regularly as in every couple trips I wouldn't bother with the real expensive stuff.  Now if your the guy that doesn't maintain your stuff very often maybe it's better to re assure yourself with the outrageous priced quart of oil. Haha.

The oil gets changed after ever 2 trips depending on how long we go out. But I have no issue paying for good oil it's a lot Cheeper then a new motor. And I trust everyone's opinion on here you guys have helped me a lot

Flat tappet or roller cam? If its a flat tappet run whatever you use make sure it has zinc otherwise you risk losing the cam. If its a roller you should be ok with pretty much anything you want. I personally like vr1 for my boat.

Honestly I'm not sure stupidly when I bought the boat I didn't ask if he still had the paper work for it. Would it hurt a roller cam if I run oil with zinc just to be safe ?

As far as I know it shouldn't hurt it if it's roller
