Title: when I rev up the motor oil comes up dip stick
Post by: motorhome6 on October 28, 2009, 09:51:54 AM: Well I have another slight problem now . When I rev my motor up I have oil coming out my dip stick. I don't even have to be going anywhere. I only have a breather on one valve cover. If I put another breather on the other valve cover would that help or is it a different problem. I've got a 14 qt pan with trap doors and windage tray and high vol pump installed.It's the right one for this motor but something must not be right.

If this is a new problem, and you haven't recently added or changed oil, you might be able to rule out the oil level being too high, but perhaps worth checking as well.

I would also try running a PCV valve instead of the breather.

Post by: dodgedoctr on October 28, 2009, 03:35:48 PM: has too much crank case pressure sounds like you have no breather on the valve covers..thats why its pukin oil..its takin the path to least resistance,run a pcv valve on one side to the carb..it will get rid of the oil pukin problem,or if you have breathers you didnt cut slots in the gromet.....

Post by: FORKEDUP on October 28, 2009, 07:16:07 PM: my daytona used to do the same thing, i added a puke tank (from jbp) and it solved the problem, i was told that the breathers ( i had the k&n ones) would not breathe enough ???, added the puke tank and never had another problem with it, that is all that changed.

Post by: GT Jets on October 28, 2009, 09:39:14 PM: The list of possible problems is a short one..You absolutely must have breathers on both covers. PCV valves don't do Shiat on a big lift cam (no vacuum). The oil level must be low enough to reduce centrifugal windage...

If all these things are OK, then you may have an engine problem internally. Marine engines biggest killer is rust, it gets on the cylinder walls when they sit for prolonged time periods then you run it, the rings wipe the walls of the rust and all of the oil....

Two stupid things to try.....Even if the leakdown test shows issues.

Get some decarbonizing chemicals and run it through the engine per the directions....I recommend Amsoil Power Foam, but there are a lot of different ones on the market (Yamaha makes one called Carbon Guard, GM makes one called Top Engine Cleaner) they all do the same thing, but I sell Amsoil so I'm a bit partial... :sly:

The second thing to try is to get the engine really warm and right before you shut it off, pour some Marvel Mystery oil down the carb and let it sit overnite...Then run the test again...

Works about one in five times for me... :thumbup:

Post by: dodgedoctr on November 02, 2009, 07:38:49 PM: pukin out the dip stick tells me you have no crank case ventalation..im a tech..with no vent to atmosphere means it will push oil out where ever it can..cuz you have it all closed up pcv to the carb is good there a low pressure area at the base..getting a oil dump isnt going to get rid of the pressure in the crank case those orew just like a water trap for an air compressor.. if you have your foot in it all the time you will have a bunch of pressure and it will push oil out were ever it can..even if you have a fat cam or mild..most drag boats have check valve welded it to the headers to relive crank case pressure..if you want it to stop pukin out the dip stick try my methods..and check to see if the push in breather gromets have slits or notched..if they are completly sealed with no hole or slit thats were your prolems are..other than that you have f*#cked up rings..later
