So I just took the cap off my mag to polish the housing and found a broken piece inside. I figure since these damn things are so expensive there has to be a place to rebuild em.. Anyone have any good experience with a certain shop? Id like to stay local in the Fresno area but I know most of you are down south so I can ship it to them if they're a good shop. Thanks! Ill post a few pictures so you can see what Im talking about.

You can send it to hunt who appears to have rebuilt it before. also don zig does them too, but not the fastest service. I bet you could get a sticker from me before you get your mag back. ;D
I had mine tested at a shop here locally here in vegas (Figspeed). The guy that runs this shop used to work for Mallory in the magneto dept and had tons of knowledge about them. He doesnt rebuild them, but could tell you of a shop to go to.

i would send it right to joe hunt...his name is right on it...there may be some warranty on it as well! http://www.huntmagnetos.com/ (http://www.huntmagnetos.com/)

I'd send it to Zig. He's the brainchild behind a lot of mag technology. Now that NHRA is in full swing, he'll be busy, but if you've got a little time, he's the man.

Thanks for the responces guys. Ill try and get a quote tomorrow. If its too much Ill just hold off and run my MSD stuff. I was hoping to run the mag because of my big ass mag tach I have.. I have time though, dont even have a motor together.

X2 on Joe Hunt.......As Nordie said, his names on it, might cut you a break on that ordeal. Mag rebuilds on a Vertex are easily 5 bills and more. :banghead:

Joe Hunt sold Joe Hunt Magnetos some years ago. I think an Australian guy owns it now....and that's all I know about that.
Joe Hunt, Cirello, Vertex, Frankenstein, Schaefer, etc, ALL these mags were sourced from a manufacturer in Sweden (started out as the same mag). Each American company would purchase direct and then modify them to their specs, slap their label on it and then sell it as their own specially prepared magneto. The brand name often helped the racer know how the mag was set up (output rating, etc) although this changed over the years. (Joe Cirello also manufacturer his very own mag, 100% in-house, although very few are in existence.)
We use Don Zig for our mag service. Tom Cirello is another good option. Lastly, there's a guy we use up here who is an FAA certified magneto rebuilder (mags originated from aircraft) and he is one of the most detail-oriented technical geeks I have met...meaning I have faith in his workmanship. If you want to go this route PM me, but Cirello and Zig can take care of you.
