Title: Wing Installation

Can any one shed some light on the proper way a wing should be or is installed on a drag boat?

IMHO, It needs to be mounted to reinforced stringers and triangulated.  These wings provide thousands of pounds of downforce and are extensively engineered.

Too much down force, wrong center of gravity...

since there is only a handful of drag jet boats that have had them installed, im sure there is no right/wrong way to do it. there is no "how to install a wing on a jetboat" manual out there. it would take someone with some serious arodynamics experience to set it up properly without putting a boat at high speeds into a barrel roll, take off like a kite, or nosing down so hard it hooks.

i have no experience what so ever on the subject, but i thought about it....

unlike cars that have 4 wheels on the ground to get a baseline of win direction...boats are much more complex as the baseline is changed with the attitude of the boat (nozzle angel).....so does this mean everytime a drag boat changes its attitude (wet or dry) do they have to adjust the wing to make it properly work efficiently?

There was a guy several years back running a wing on a really fast river racer, the wing was to literally lift the weight of the engine at speed, looked crazy, but worked, there are pics somewhere.

I think Mouser has one or two. Mounting should be self explanitory. I think Zoomies are a prerequisit tho.....

considering it is a 27' jet boat that carries over 2000lbs of fuel, not to mention the weight of the boat, mid 70's seems kinda impressive ???

I heard from Roy Miersh sp that on boat's they are to lift the boat not push. Sounds scary to do that at high speeds, most of fast jet boats are almost all the way out of the water anyway at top speed. Looks cool tho.

don't know if it really did anything or not, the boat only did about 75 gps, mild 468bbc, first tunnel so it was the learning boat, would be curious to see how it would affect high hp applications though
