BBF Bassett Headers - V-Drive?
« on: September 17, 2017, 03:21:18 PM »
Just picked up this brand new set of Bassett twist headers for my 460 BBF they are to short to reach over my transom. Maybe for a V-Drive? Not sure..anyways 600.00 located in central California.

So I am about 99 percent sure these are V Drive headers reading other threads on the internet. When sitting flat on a table there is no upward angle the collectors are basically flat in that position so if any one needs a brand new set of V Drive headers here is your chance to save some cash on a BRAND NEW set of Bassetts. Send me a PM if you are interested.

I will consider trading these for a set of good condition used chrome jet style BBF headers

Nice pieces, just to maybe help sell your stacks, there is no difference in headers between a jet and v-drive unless you have them custom made. Bassett normally makes them with long and short collectors. I have a set of showers on my jet mainly because of I like the look better.

Not true here is a copy from an email from Bassett about this ...

Yes, they have different rise and angles of the pipes. A jet boat motor is usually tilted back at 6 degrees to align with the jet pump. We build the headers angled up 6 degrees. When you install the headers they will be level with the hull. The v-drive motors are usually angled forward at 2 degrees. The headers are built angling down at 2 degrees so they also will be level with the hull when installed. V-drive twist headers will not fit on a jet boat. Jet headers will fit on a v-drive boat. But the headers will be angled up in the air 8 degrees.

Hope this helps.

Sorry to muddle the waters I was pointing out that whether or not the headers extended over the transom made no difference between jet and V-drive, just preference with that. The angle I agree is another matter all together. Good luck with your sale.

No worries I understand I have long collector on my boat now but they have been cut short. These will not clear the top of the gunnel hight wise they sit right on top of the boat. They MAY  fit some jets where the engine sits high and or the gunnel is very low but they will be extremely low the rise from the top of the exhaust port flange to the bottom of the collector pipes is just over 6 inches

Gotcha. I've also seen some custom jobs on v-drives, especially bigger boats that are totally parallel to the hull extending past the transom. A lot of combinations. Nice boat by the way...

Bump still have them...I don't know for sure what they will fit other than they are 460 BBF. All I can say is they were to short to clear the top of my gunnel on the transom of my Challenger...they may fit other jet boats depending on how your 460 sits and how tall your transom sits...
