It's frustrating how this guy is not answering ANY questions pertaining to this motor. I personally do not believe this motor is 540 inches. There are a couple of clues that I am going by. It looks like a standard deck GM block with GM heads and head bolts. I don't think that anybody in there right mind would go through the trouble of building a blown 540 without atleast using some sort of aftermarket head. Head studs are a must also. YOu can not get 540 inches out of a gm block either.

If this IS a legite deal, then I apologize, but It seems shady to me at this time.....

Maybe he means 540HP with the blower   ???
I would still like to know more about the motor and details on components.

I would imagine it would have to be a 502 block, not a 454 block

Pretty sure Steve, Sean and Keagan know him. Neil knows him real well. Figured you might too.

I'm not sure whether or not he's using 502 blocks, the couple times I've been around him he's super busy and doesn't get into much detail...

However I was under the impression that a Gen V 454 and 502 were the same blocks with different bore x stroke... My gen V 454 used the same cam and oil pan,  as a Gen V 502. Heads are also interchangeable. That was all I really changed out on the engine besides carb, intake, and ignition.

Thanks, but I'm not looking to build a new mill at this time, or change machine shops. I just think this particular "540" is questionable. And cast iron is not the issue, it's the combination of parts that raises my eyebrow.

to answer all of your questions please email the guy that has it in storage he did do the last tune up on it and he has the motor. and to build a 540 is not hard to do  even with cast standard block and heads. just bore and 1/2  stroker rods. now if you want to do bigger you run into overheating problems and flow problems with the heads just commen sense    please email him at maddogmikey@yahoo.com

You may not like what I have to say, but I don't want one of my friends on this site to buy your engine.I think that your engine is not what you say it is.....Prove me wrong and I will apologize like no other.... Again, please list the parts that comprise this engine along with the bore and stroke.

maybe if you would just answer some of the questions and give some better details the comments would stop, look at it from our side, you post it for sale with no info, don't respond for a couple weeks, still no info on the motor and your first post says you have a motor to get rid of, now it is someone else that has it in storage that knows about it. sorry but have to agree it sounds fishy,  again prove us wrong please

You can get a 572 (stroked to 510 and bored .125) out of a Gen V 454. Out of a 460 you can punch and stroke it out a little more than 540.
Remember not all blocks are sound enough to be bored that far... However, in theory the .125 overbore is possible.

Just stroking a 454 you can get it up to 512. Then boring obviously would bring you up a whole lot more.
So a 542.72 can be a 454 stroked to a 512 then bored .060 over.

With a 460 you are limited really only by the fact that piston manufacturers do not make a piston large enough to fill the hole past the 540. At that point, you're going custom.

REVISION: After some further research, I have been informed that you can actually STROKE a 460 to a 572, and then have some boring space left..... Conceivably a 460 block in OEM form can be stroked and bored to over 600 cubic inches.

At what point does it no longer have any chance of staying together?

There is a time where it is better to buy an aftermarket block and do it right.

540  is the comfortable range for both the 454-460. That's what I've gathered from making a few phone calls to professional engine builders.
