Any input I know some of you guys dont like Olds motors but some feedback please?

That looks like a smoking deal! He did not mention any oiling mods being done , you might want to ask about that!

Oil return. The olds tend to hold a lot of oil in the heads , and at high rpm's dont have sufficent oil in the pan. So there needs to be something done to help the oil back down.

I have no idea on that part , I have never had them done. I sold my olds as fast as I could get it out of the boat cause it had a hole in a piston. I am now running a ford , so I would call around and ask a couple mechanics about that. Assuming they are not already done in the first place.

in my opinion...(which means nothing) if the motor already has that kind of head w/ adjustable valve train, most likely have been drilled for oil return, but u should ask anyway, i checked into setting up my "k" heads like that was a little pricey for my book......

I have emailed him and ask if anything has been done. I am wondering how much work I am looking at switching that engine out with my bbc? Any hints?

well i was going to go the other way..olds to bbc on my for sale boat..the only thing i could use was the carb and the exhaust snails, that was about it....you will need mounts for motor to boat and mounts from motor to jet , exhaust logs or headers, diff alt brackets, and diff driveshaft yoke universal thingy that mounts to flywheel and jet splines.....and some other stuff i forgot about...now thats a start...

The olds block is a half inch longer then the BBC.

I have plenty of room. What about teh motor mounts? Same area anyway? Are the attachements to the pump the same? or doe sthat differ from setup to setup/ never done an engine swap on my own.

Here is what he said he has done! Is that sufficient?
"I opened up the return holes in the heads and it has a large volume pan.
I also cleaned up the flashing in the ports in the heads."

That should solve a good deal of the problems right there.
The other thing they do to a lot of olds is oblong the oil holes in the crank.
But what is already done should be sufficent enough.
I am no expert by any means , if you ask timinator he can tell you everything you need to know. He did a article that almost made me keep my olds.

Now I am kinda excited! Just gotta cough up 2500 bucks plus what it will take to swap! Gonna put my bbc in my 16ft avenger if I can make this work!

What any item is worth is totaly dependant on who's buying and selling that item.
With that being said, I don't think that you could buy all the parts that Olds engine has, put them all together correctly, and come out for less than $2500. No way. In that respect, it's definately worth it.

His article (and my budget) DID make me decide to keep and rebuild the Olds. All I need is big torque numbers. Don't need no steenking RPM.

Too bad you did not post this last week , I just sold a complete set of olds motor mounts on ebay.

I have a monster pump and have been told that it woudl pair well with High Torque! I have the Old Drake pmp that has been likened to a giant jacuzi pump.
