Title: Olds 455 Motor for Sale or Trade
Post by: Hoff Rod on February 17, 2007, 11:27:41 AM
Complete Motor, disassembled 2/5/07 all surfaces have been greased and parts bagged to protect them from elements. I lost a rod bearing that took out the crank and pistons, less then 50 hours on the motor, it is "F5" Block Casting that was bored .030. The heads are "K" casting (the correct marine heads) that are in good shape. The boat was never in salt water, includes the square Hardin Marine exhaust manifolds, Make offer. I am done with Olds and looking for a replacement Chevy motor and might be willing to trade. Photos upon request

"... I am done with Olds and looking for a replacement..."

The Olds is a good engine when used below 4,000 RPM (continous) and a water pressure regulator is used. Otherwise, they're crap.

Is that like saying a gun shot wound is ok as long as it is not in the Head or chest!  I would rebulid it if I could find a good crank for a resonable price. Loved the motor, it ran great and was reliable until the end.  Last rebuild it took me forever to find a set of heads for it. I would like to use the boat this season, and not spend it hunting down parts.

When you built the engine did you put the restrictors in the mains, restrictive pushrods and lifters? Also did you have at least a 10 quart oil pan and a stock oil pump? High volume oil pumps are not really good on the olds engine. I built mine with all those and so far very good and no blowing oil out the valve cover breathers.
