This guy seems really cool.....Has a guy from Sacramento interested but cannot pick it up til next week... ;)

I am going to get some dough together and get this thing picked up maybe as early as this afternoon.  8)

He says the only thing his "Racing buddies" said they would do to it would be to put in a set of bearings (assuming rod/main) they told him they were ok but "marginal"..

Typicall jetboat engine IMO, it does run and he is keeping the carb....otherwise complete..Will let you know.  Gotta figure out how to load this heavy bastard in my truck (he does not have a cherry picker...)

4 guys should be able to pick it up, no problem. (I say this from experience. Course when I used to do such things I was 20 years younger.......)

Good job guys!  was contemplating a cross betweeen Chromey's motor and mine would probably make 1 good engine.

Didn't get pics tonite, but it's unloaded and I will try to get it in a trailer so we dont have to offload this heavy focker...Unless someone has a better idea of how to get it from truck to truck :-\

I ended up talking to my drunk nieghbor for about an hour and a half, all because I pulled the motorhome out of the driveway (says it sounds like a drag car  ;D ).

Anyways, I think we scored here...Even has brand new chrome valve covers on it... 8)

FWIW, the heads weigh 80 pounds a piece, intake is another 40#  :(

Not that I am a whiner or anything, but I have a broken toe and a sprained finger from lifting something to damn heavy on Friday.
I am beginning to feel age creeping up on me like a used car salesman.  :-\

No offense anyone  ;D

I'm thinking a trailer would be the safest... ;)

rotating assy vs a complete motor

if its worth anything, i have a cherry picker to use to get it in my truck if we do the glen > skip > barstow trip

glen and skip....measure the hight your tailgate is off the ground....if anything, slide it from one to another.

There are a few needs for this badboy..

I would like to see a new oil pan pick up on this dude (debris), also a set of brass freeze plugs,  an oil pan set (not to mention a bigger pan), and a new timing set (this one is pretty loose and the factory style), also be needin a dipstick....

I pulled a main and a rod cap and checked the condition of the bearings and crank, honestly a solid 8 out of 10, the bearings are useable IMO, there are some water marks here and there, but none too bad that I saw.

The plugs look good, as does the cap and rotor...

I think the timing cover is broken at the bottom two bolt holes......

In short, here's a list of needs;
1- oil pan set
1- oil pump pick up tube.
1- cam timing set (roller???)
1- timing cover set (Maybe even timing cover unless CHROMEY's is cherry)
brass freeze plug kit
1- dipstick (more than likely can use from old motor)
1- carb base gasket
1- oil filter
oil
1- Large tub of Elbow Grease
1- case of beer of desired brand  ;D

This motor has...;

cast pistons (newer) one of which looks like it has some piston skirt scuffing (tight wrist pin  :-\)

DUI distributor...That won't clear the t-stat housing. :-\

newer ignition wires

four point mounts

long bolt manifolds and snails (Harman)

flex plate and PTO

alternator that has been spin checked good

Carter Marine fuel pump

Brand new chrome valve covers  :sly:

Oil pressure sender (newer) of unkown make...

And I'm sure there is more  8)

All in all looks like a runner....

Soooo who's getting what?    ;)

I am not going to make the races for several reasons...One of them being we had 20 layoff's at work on Thursday morning (all office personel), just trying to keep the peace with the mechanics and my workload just went up by a whole bunch :banghead:

My dad was not going to go to Vegas  this W/E and Beave called and said he was in Gilroy this week, he offered to get this thing as South as he could, even got a hold of Omar and CHROMEY to make it happen, can't tell you how much I appreciate it David.

Here are some pics of the motor in the back of his truck (the valve covers are not diamond plat, it's a reflection, but did get me to thinking)  ;)

Feeling like total crap today and I have a hundred things to do, so TTFN.

Harbor freight has a really heavy one that has a cherry picker base on it I think I paid like 70 bucks for one...I would loan it out but it is holding my big block beater on it...otherwise I would pimp it out...I'm sure if we run to parhump we could pick one up from my dad...he's probably got one or 2 laying around! Yeah I was thinking about your cherry picker brad and wondering if it had enough height to clear chromeys boat...if all else fails mine is right up the street from your casa...spicy bloody marrys...del taco...and turning wrenches sounds like a good deal to me

take the tires off the trailer if its not tall enough....

Been there done that
Title: Re: WTB...460 FORD MOTOR CHEAP
Post by: Brad @ SCJB on June 29, 2009, 04:28:45 PM
mine extends pretty far out...dont know if it will clear his transom as it is nearly chest high.

taking the tires off doesnt work too well depending on the trailer because the engine hoist legs have to go under the boat and the frame of the trailer can only go so far down until its resting on the hoist....then how are you going to pull it out?

might need to find someone with a sturdy set of rafters in their garage and use a pully style hoist to yank it out.....even heard of people using an old swing set frame.
