IMHO they are both equally good heads, for some reason the 781's are always less sought after. I run 781's on both motors I have here. Everybody thinks the 049's are the better head, but willing to bet you wont be able to tell the difference.
Where you is? I have a buidable set of heads here (at least I think I do) I would need to pop over to the shop and mag them real quick to make sure they are fixable (guide issue).
There is more "meat" in 781's for port matching.. ;)

My preference would be the 781 but I'm not gonna complain on the 049's for the right price ,

I have some 781s if you're still looking? They came off a stock running 454. They could probably use a good cleaning and a valve job?

I have a set of stock rectangle port performer Chevy cast iron heads I can sell you for very cheap. Can sell them as us or can have a valve job done shoot me a pm if interested.
